Make of the Week, 10/11/17.

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me repost photos from Alison before – her knitting and crochet is always stunning, but this time she really has produced something breathtaking. This jumper caught my eye from the minute she cast it on and I eagerly followed its very speedy progress ( Alison is an advocate of project monogamy, and it really does seem to work!) I am so excited to share it with you here.

Maker: Alison White

Pattern:  Prairie Fairy Jumper by Drops Design

Yarn: Sprightly DK yarn, from Yarn Club

I live in a picture book cottage in a small village on the River Pang in West Berkshire, with my husband, our 6 year old twins and a little black dog. I’ve been knitting  since I was a small child, crocheting about 5 years and dyeing for 2.

I’ve had the yarn for ages while I waited for the perfect pattern. Its the Prairie Fairy Jumper by Drops Design. It was very easy to make. It’s been a while since I did colour work and I’ve changed my knitting style a bit since I last did it so there was a bit of fiddling about with the two strands of colour in the beginning but once I’d worked it out (blue in my left hand continental style and white being thrown in the right) it was quite quick. The hardest part was the endurance of long stretch of stocking stitch on the body but I always struggle with that.

It took me about two weeks to make – I didn’t work on anything else and got a good bit done on a weekend away during Storm Brian, but it was also half term so not much time for knitting during the day. I’m on a sweater making vibe this autumn. I go through phases every few months, socks, then shawls, then hats, back to shawls but I wanted to make some bigger garments and there are so many lovely patterns around at the moment, it’s hard not to want to get in on the action.
