Missed Kingfisher by Claire Littlejohn, crochet shawl for Devon Sun Yarns make of the week

Make of the Week ,03/11/17.

Last year I met Claire when she came along to a yarn retreat. Like me, Claire has very young children and balances raising a family with working and trying to fit in making time. When Claire returned to a second retreat recently, I was thrilled to see the shawls she had been making, and inspired to try to make something bigger. I love the way she has combined three very different yarns from her stash to make something really wearable, and individual.  Claire has kindly shared some photos here and some words of her own to describe her project.

Maker: Claire Littlejohn

Pattern:  Missed Kingfisher by Joanne Scrace, available in The Crochet Project Book 2,  here.

Yarn: Sprightly sock yarn, from the Sock Club

Missed Kingfisher by Claire Littlejohn, crochet shawl for Devon Sun Yarns make of the week
Hello, i’m Claire and I live in Bristol.
I’ve been knitting for years but finally leant how to crochet 5 years ago making amigururmi animals for my little boy. Once he had enough to make a zoo I branched out and started making shawls and instantly fell in love with The Crochet Project.
Now I’d say crochet is my ‘go to’ whenever I’m feeling fed up or stressed and the end of a long day being able to switch the tv on and my current wip is my time.
I’ve wanted to do Missed Kingfisher since I got book 2 as I really like a big shawl and I’ve loved seeing other people’s versions. I looked at a few colour combinations but really pleased with the ones I’ve picked and glad I waited as I’ve learnt a lot about colour and yarns over the last year.

The pattern is pretty straight forward and took me a couple of weeks to complete. I used a 6mm hook and a combination of Devon Sun Yarns bamboo yak for the grey, Humble Solo for the black and Sprightly speckled in Night Skies.
Huge thanks to Claire for sharing her beautiful shawl with us, if you have made something using Devon Sun Yarns yarn, and would like to be featured as Maker of the Week, you can read more about it here.  All you need are a few clear photos so please get in touch. You can see previous makes here .
